A Reflection of My Life
Without any doubt, in order to understand the gist of our life and our present, we have to trace back to our past, because our experience forms us and helps us to become what we are now. Finding the meaning in the previous triumphs, achievements, and failures, we come to the better consideration of our motives and deeds. Moreover, people cannot do without their memories, which are an essential component of their inner world. They make us feel alive and develop our personality. Therefore, in this paper, I would like to share my life experience in the light of the mature person whom I am today.
I was born in the marvelous city Lubbock in Texas twenty seven years ago. I was a young boy, when my parents divorced. The divorce led to our removal to Council Bluffs in Iowa. It was a difficult time for me, because I had a big stress caused by my parents’ decision to live apart and our moving from the home city. Nevertheless, I felt that I was not alone, because I had close people, who always supported me: my mother and my elder brother and sister. Having grown up in Council Bluffs, I became acquainted with a great number of difficulties and have faced various challenges. It helped me then in my further life, because I was able to feel confident to cope with them and struggle for the successful results. One of the difficulties I have encountered is that I was raised by my single mother, and I was the youngest of three children in the family. Even though our family was very modest, we have lived through financial struggles. However, it has not made us lead a pitiful uninteresting life full of unpleasant moments. From time to time, we have both difficult and joyful periods in life, but they all have the meaning for us, and they form our experience that changes us and our attitude towards the world. According to my favorite modern thinker Viktor Frankl, a famous Austrian existential philosopher and psychotherapist, we have to make our decisions and be active even if we doubt in the meaning of our life: “Ultimately, man should not ask what the meaning of his life is, but rather he must recognize that it is he who is asked. In a word, each man is questioned by life; and he can only answer to life by answering forhis own life; to life he can only respond by being responsible”.
As I have mentioned above, human memories is a great material for our reflection and the source of better understanding of our personality. As every person, I can recall the most notable moments in my life that made me happy and that I can be pleased to recall later. When I was a child, I was a member of Pop Warner organization – a foundation that provides football and cheer and dance programs for children ranging from 5 to 16 years old. Every year, this foundation organizes championships. Once I was honored to win in the Pop Warner football championship. Among my memories, I would like to mark out two trips, two vacations with my family. The first was a trip to the Grand Canyon. Since my childhood, I had been dreaming about visiting this remarkable place, which is very popular among tourists all over the world. Living in the USA, I wanted to be a part of the community having first-hand knowledge about it. That is why I am grateful to my mother, who made my dreams come true, especially this one. The second journey was to Panama CityBeach in Florida. It was a great joy for me, because there you can see and feel a tremendous beauty of the nature; the waters were crystal clear, and the ocean – endless. In addition to that, I cannot forget getting my driver’s license and my first car. These two events symbolize my maturity, freedom to choose and be responsible, independence, a great range of various possibilities opening to me, that is to say - the beginning of my own path.
Human beings are such creatures who cannot lead a harmonious life without a will to develop their personality, widen their experience, and broaden their knowledge. That is the reason to have some hobbies apart from the main stream, which is individual and depends on the priorities of every person: “If instead of doing nothing when we come home from work we turn to our hobbies or other activities that challenge us, that we enjoy and that we care about, we are more likely to get a second wind and replenish our emotional bank”. That is why I have always cared about my leisure time to be spent with benefits and positive emotions. I am fond of sports. It was one of the reasons of my membership in Pop Warner organization. Moreover, I am interested in astronomy. At the same time, I am willing to develop the creative part of my personality, so I am learning to play guitar. I hope to reach a quite high level in some time in order to be satisfied with the efforts and to feel free to claim about this side of my interests.
In my opinion, taking into consideration people’s orientation on success and self-cultivation, the issue of professional realization is one of the most significant. I have got a quite rich experience in career field. It reflects my personal evolution and my striving for the better life. I started my professional path as an usher at the movie theatre. Of course, it was not a fascinating job, but it has given me a useful experience of communicating with different people. Then, I had an opportunity to try myself as a cab driver. This job was also very important from the point of view of its socialization experience. These first steps were a solid prerequisite of my further experience of working as an account manager at Rent-A-Center. There I was able to apply all my knowledge of coping with a wide range of issues referred to the communication and service. In some time, I have left this place and become an underwriter at American Omni Crop Insurance. I perceive it to be my achievement, but I hope it is not the last one, because there is no end in our activity during the whole life.
